Complete assigned reading prior to the inclass discussion
Take notes in Cornell Note format as you read
Pay particular attention to bold faced words and classifications
After reading a topic, review your notes and write your summary
Make note of anything you do not understand and ask about it in class
Study Guide
Complete as much of the study guide as you can after reading the text and the in class discussion
Fill in any items that you cannot do, by looking them up in the textbook or your notes
After completing the study guide check your responses with the key
Lab Packet
Stay on task during lab activities doing that which is assigned each day
Read and take notes on the lab manual when assigned.
Reference the lab manual, atlas or textbook when identifying tissues under the microscope. Look to see what the tissue should look like before you start drawing.
Ask if you do not obtain the results you are supposed to.
Essays
Read through the essay questions early in the unit.
As you read about the essay topics in the textbook and learn in class, takes notes of what you want to include in your essay
Check the essay grading rubric and compose your first draft
Finalize your essay, making certain you have completely answered the questions and included examples and applications
Class Discussions
Follow the lecture with your completed Cornell Notes
Highlight or add to your notes those topics that you did not include or those that are important
Ask questions and actively listen
it is helpful to review your notes after the lecture as well
Review Activities
Actively take part in classroom review activities.
Try to complete the activities without the assistance of your notes.
Check your notes or ask when you do not know an answer
Study Hints
Check the objectives for each unit. Can you perform the listed objective?
Review Cornell Notes and summaries. If you cannot explain the concept, review the material in the textbook.
Check your study guide with the study guide key. Review those items that you missed.
Review lab handouts. Topics that are covered in the study guide and the lab are important.
Go through the review questions at the end of the chapter. This is a great overview of the content.
Practice labelling the diagrams. Can you identify the major structures?
